H. E. Ambassador Dr. Hisham Alalawi met on 15/2 /2012 with Professor Max Price, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town.
The Ambassador elaborated on the latest developments in Iraq and his positive experience since his arrival in South Africa in April 2011, referring to the great potential cooperation between South Africa and Iraq not only at an official level but also at the level of universities and think tanks as well as various civil society institutions. He also provided an overview of the higher education system in Iraq, and pointed to the preparation of the draft Memorandum of Understanding for scientific and cultural cooperation between the two countries, which will provide a solid ground to enhance the collaboration between the two countries and the program initiated by H.E. the Prime Minister which is expected to be implemented during the next ten years and aims at sending thousands of Iraqi students to complete their higher studies abroad. The program will be fully funded by the Iraqi government.
Professor Price thanked H.E the Ambassador and provided him with a summary of the history of the University of Cape Town and pointed out that the university is interested in attracting and providing extensive training programs for post-doctoral students.
H.E the Ambassador was accompanied on his visit to the university by his spouse, Mr. Faleh Abdul Qadir, Minister Plenipotentiary and Miss Thura Safa, Attaché in the Iraqi Embassy.
