His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Hisham Alalawi and his spouse attended on 9/2/2012, the opening session of Parliament in Cape Town and listened to the State of the Nation Address given by the President Mr. Jacob Zuma.
The event was attended by many officials in the government of South Africa at both the Federal and Provincial level. They listened to the Address of the President in which he highlighted many of the problems facing South Africa such as poverty, unemployment, inequality and named some of the solutions to these problems, including the adoption of a massive plan to develop the infrastructure aimed to provide jobs and reduce unemployment and poverty. The plan suspected, by the opposition parties including the Democratic Alliance Party not to have the necessary funding.
President Zuma also spoke about the development of the mining sector, which is one of the sectors that contribute to job creation and plays a key role in the development of the social and economic environment of the country. In addition the sectors of tourism, agriculture and manufacturing as well as an green economy that contribute to the development of the country. H.E. the Ambassador and his spouse joined the dinner party which was held in celebration of the occasion at the parliament's building.
