On the 24th of April 2012, the Ambassador, Dr. Saywan Barzani, attended the media conference held by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regarding Dukan conference on human trafficking which will be held in the region of Kurdistan / Iraq on the 21st and 22nd of May 2012. The conference was attended by the Minister Plenipotentiary Mr. Stefano Palmas, in charge of the Gulf States affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bakhtiar Amin, head of the international Alliance for Justice and Laura Guercio, lawyer and president of International aid around the world. The Dukan conference will focus on the issue of human trafficking in the Middle East and in Iraq as well as search for the social, economic and legal roots of this phenomenon and all other related topics such as unemployment and organized crime. The Ambassador thanked the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the organizers of the event for all efforts made to support and strengthen the protection of human rights in Iraq and pointed out that the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon is due to a number of negative factors at various levels, such as lack of security, stability and the fragility of the economic situation, which weakens the social structure and its ability to combat this phenomena. Regarding foreign labor, the national laws are a key factor in the fight against human trafficking within every country and stop injustice and low wages, in this regard, Iraq is trying to limit this phenomenon by fighting against illegal access of foreign labor and issue laws that guarantee their rights.
