27/03/2012

On the 23/3/2012 the Embassy held at its headquarters a ceremony on the occasion of Nowruz festival to which all the members of the Iraqi community living in Italy were invited.

The Ambassador, Dr. Saywan Barzani, delivered a speech in which he welcomed all the attendees for their participation in celebrating the festival of Spring, Abundance and Donation, i.e. the festival of Nawruz, and said that the Embassy aimed, by organizing this event, to gather a high number of valuable Iraqis living in Italy to celebrate with them and to strengthen the sense of brotherhood with all sects of the Iraqi nation in all its forms and types, and wished that this occasion will be the appropriate starting point to stress on the importance of preserving this diversity as an element of power towards the rebuilding of the modern Iraqi state and a reason to strengthen the bonds of love and brotherhood between the components of the Iraqi nation from the north to the far south and an opportunity to express the depth of the ties that bind the people of this nation; indeed, celebrating Nowruz festivals is not limited to the Kurds, but all Iraqis have been always sharing their fellow Kurds in expressing the manifestation of joy on this occasion.

The Ambassador also pointed out that Iraq is living a transition phase towards building a modern democratic state which respects human rights and abodes to law and order, despite the challenges and difficulties that impede the rapid transition to true democracy; Iraq is on the right path to regain its Arabic and international role after being isolated for so long during the previous dictatorial regime. The Ambassador added that Iraq is now in its final stage to host the Arab summit in Baghdad, an occasion to prove that Iraq is back to take the leadership role in the Arab region and the world and the Iraqi nation, in all of its components, stands and supports the empowerment of Iraq's regional and international status so this state that once was the source of civilization, culture, and science returns to be once again the center of radiation and giving to others.

The event was revived by the Iraqi Orchestra, on visit to Italy for training purposes, with musical and singing passages represented the folklore and authentic Iraqi songs.

All attendees participated in Kurdish and Arabic dances on this occasion.

The ceremony was attended by our Ambassadors from the Vatican and FAO, as well as by the Head of Mission of the Arab League, Ambassador Ghanim Al-Shibli. All Ambassadors delivered a speech on this occasion.

The event was also attended by over forty Iraqi representatives whose presence in Rome coincided with the occasion.
